Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday in a tweet, quoting Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandavia, said that when all the States applied for new medical colleges under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana scheme , Telangana failed to apply in time.

He was responding to a tweet by a netizen who asked him how many medical colleges were given in Telangana (by the Centre).

“When all states applied for new colleges under PMSSY program Telangana failed to apply on time as stated by Union Health Minister @MansukhMandavia. You sleep and wake up old and ask. TN got it 11 medical colleges in one year,” he tweeted.

In response to his tweet, Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao said that a lot of injustice was done to Telangana in allowing medical colleges despite many requests from the State governments at the Centre.

“Out of 157 medical colleges approved by Centre, TS got 0. Union Govt discriminated & cheated TS in all three categories of College division,” Harish Rao tweeted.

“What is worse is the different statements of Union Ministers on medical colleges as one said that Telangana has not made a request while others said that the State government wants medical colleges in Khammam and Karimnagar.” “By saying that the Center has not budged from the private colleges that have been established, Who is misleading the people?,” he criticized in a series of tweets.

He further said that the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has established 12 medical colleges with the State’s own resources with a vision to have one medical college in each district and till now Telangana is the top in the country. and 19 MBBS seats per one lakh population.
